Medical Assistant Program
This program is designed to prepare you for challenging career opportunities as an integral and valued professional member of a medical staff. As a Medical Assistant, you can play a role in the smooth operation of doctors' offices, clinics, hospitals or other medical facilities.
The steady increase in the number of group practices, clinics and other outpatient health care facilities helps to ensure the continuing demand for professional support personnel such as Medical Assistants.*
This exciting program is designed to provide students with the necessary education and training to acquire the administrative and basic clinical skills for entry-level Medical Assistant positions. Designed with an emphasis on practical learning, you will find that most schools offer both day and evening programs and include a full-time, unpaid clinical externship.
The program's classes are designed to prepare students for entry-level opportunities that may involve:
- Patient preparation and interaction
- Basic laboratory procedures and tests
- Communication with nurses and physicians as part of a medical team
- Medical records management
- Basic venipuncture, blood work, and patient positioning
A Medical Assistant career offers a variety of job opportunities in public health facilities, hospitals, laboratories, blood banks, medical schools, research institutions, nursing homes, and private practices. The expanded duties of a medical assistant vary from one facility to the next depending on the size and type of practice.
